So, last night Luki Luck, Chaya Feiner(trust me she couldn't be finer!) and I, Miss Anita Win, took the opportunity to go to a Part-aayy in Whitely's, Bayswater for a new collection of pop up shops. It started off a little awkwardly as we had to walk down a red carpet, me dragging a suitcase full of Bollwood costume that Luki Luck and I had purchaced in Southall earlier(everything is 'fancy' in Southall by the way, but that's a different story) and then we were handed mini champagnes which frothed all over the place, hmm glamorous, no. But then once we were upstairs free of coats and baggage, we quickly plumped our hair in the photobooth and reapplied lippy. things went up from there. There was one main ingredient in this recipe for good times and that was Tequila, very nice tequila cocktails and coffee shots made with 'Patron', it felt like we were rappers or dancehall stars(well kind of) as Patron is always coming up in that shiz
Stacks on deck,
PatrĂ³n on ice
And we can pop bottles all night
Baby, you could have whatever you like I said,
you could have whatever you like

The other ingredient was music, we enjoyed a set from Queens of Noize, which was a mash up of rock n roll tunes you could jive to, Old skool Dancehall you could grind to and some good old pop. Time Out took our picture and the French Photographer lady couldn't get enough, everytime we'd try to leave she'd say, 'one more' even though she'd done said 'Voila' , ha! Hope it's not some butters picture! We also yammed down mini burgers, mmmm and did a bit of diva spotting, our little Thai boy in the pirate getup caught our eye as did a twiddly black Charlie Chaplin. They reminded us that there was a fun side to fashion and it's not all pretentious bullshit, in fact the overall atmnosphere was playful and friendly. The only cringey moment was a performance from what I think was Alice Dellal's new band(they were donning masks and men's suits) because that was the word on the shopping mall walkways. I think what it was meant to be was a 'punk' performance but it sounded more like some posh kids screaming 'Stick my Pussy in your face'in their best mockney accents, in fact I'm pretty sure that's what it actually was. It was about as punk as a sloanie in a range rover. And please? 'Stick my pussy in your face'? Hardly contreversial, you wanna come down Rebel Bingo if and hear what nasty really is! Yeah punk is dead.
Or is it?.....
Things got proper grimey over at The Old Blue, Tempa T and JME stormed the stage, me and Luki had no idea what was on that night and this was a nice kick up the arse, they complimented eachother well, JME smooth and striding, Tempa, a controlled maniac exploding in short sharp blasts! There was a raw energy floating about the stage and the cowd was pretty mad, moshin about fervently. Grime kinda reminds me of what punk was, loud, angry, strangely lyrical in it's aggressive, unabashed delivery. It was London without the bullshit, without the famous people's kids! The London venacular was flowing and jerking over the beats and the bass was rushing through everyone, a fucked up catharsis. A little comedy was added to the performance by their 2 mates standing at the back of the stage, yeah just standing, one of them even started texting at 1 point, the other was wearing a red balaclava type hat that looked more like a bandage, he was dead serious though, well it was Prada innit. Next up was Dynamit-eee-eee. Now this is a lady who has been around for a while, starting off on Pirate stations such as Flex FM she is old skooool, and me and Luki have love for her. 'Boo' is literally one of the best tunes in the world. That bass is sick and it's always good to hear a lady getting militant! Ha! We lost it at this point, we was in the zone!Blap! Blap! HA! The old skool vibes continued with an old skool garage set which was bitter sweet, nostalgic pleasure and lots of shackin out!
On the nightbus home the tequila was wearing off and a nasty cold was setting in, the last thing I wanted was some posh dickheads surrounding me and talking about how Dyanamite wasn't all that, they don't know the history! They don't know about her, about the old skool raves, Ladbroke Grove, nike TNs when we were growing up with that song was part of our life's soundtrack!
The night was hosted by Palladium and was about Pirate Radio Stations, people creating underground movements and you know we at Rebel Bingo are all about that. These artists, these genres; Jungle, Garage, Grime, they all grew out of Pirate stations, people getting up on roofs, and setting up transmissions that streamed through the cities airwaves and spread to the next, then the next until it was all over the country, now regardless of your musical preference I think that you can't deny an element of inspiration in that.
