Fashion dos and don'ts, faux pas, what was she thinking? Et bloomin cetera!

If there is something that gets right on my tits, it is these little pages in magazines that show pictures of celebs getting it 'wrong', now I know of course sometimes these celebs do get it incredibly wrong but really quite often these mag people are missing the point by a landslide! I've discussed it with Luki and others and it gets under their skin too. Now, okay there are bad outfit choices made by 'schlebs' all the time, Britney, we love you but quite often in the past you did 'in our oppinion' come out with some rotters where it was clear you were trying to be fashionable and failing but as I said we still love you so..yeah anyway, back to the matter in hand....



Anyone who knows an ounce about fashion knows there is a difference between ready to wear/off the rail and Couture. Couture is often about the bigger concept. It's often larger than life, a piece of art. Now if me and Luki had access to these diamonds of fashion art we would shine in them as often as we could, we are show offs for god's sake that's why we got into burlesque and the URBC, so we can dress up and be Divas! And that is part of what people expect and enjoy when they come to see a show. So yes in a performance environment that is what is expected and so in turn acceptable. but what about Performers/ Stars who carry on the idea of costume into the street, well why is that such a crime?!



Now I don't love Lady Gaga (sorry peoples, but I don't think bad romance is amazing and she can't dance, i like my pop stars to dance godammit!) but both me and Luki completely respect(and quite often envy!) her approach to fashion/costume. When you are as famous as her, the world becomes a stage, she can so she does and she wins everytime because she knows she's going to have her picture taken and get her audience and also she is enjoying herself! I love seeing her outrageous outfits, who wants to live in a world devoid of art and avante garde? Not me! Why does there have to be rules, boundaries and ridicule when it comes to expressing yourself and being creative with dress. Screw you, you loser, designer label worshipping, cubicle dwelling, conformist magazine 'journalists'!!!!

Bjork, the queen of being different and one of the most original artists of our era has made a living and lifestyle out of experimental music and image. She has always been a thrill to follow, quite, quite! One day beautiful Bjork decided to wear an awesome costume to an awards ceremony, this outfit has featured constantly over the years on these fashion 'no no' programmes, you know the ones "worst dressed of the century" with talking heads you've never heard of explaining how awful other more successful people are. The oufit was this one...

My friends and moi thought it was amazing, the sort of thing we'd dream of wearing as a child because of it's fantasy, fairytale element and equally now for the same reasons. You see the urge to dress up and transform and become a character is something instinctive from childhood. Some of us never grow out of it! And it is these people that make the world a more colourful place. Are these magazines trying to perpetuate the idea that dressing alternatively, wearing couture/ costume is something which should be abolished? Or do they simply have nothing to write about? Who knows. But it's definitely an irritating part of modern media culture.

I mean for goodness sake me and Luki opened a magazine the other day to find the gorgeous Abbey Clancy being criticized for this outfit...



because apparently it was a little too risque, it's hardly risque is it?! Plus she looks stunning as usual! The opposite page had a picture of Anna Friel in a white top and black trousers and she was being held up as the epitome of good style. Now I have no problem with Ms Friel or classic, simple dressing but it's hardly the be all and end all of life to dress that way!

So please, for heavens sake, stop being so uptight you media folk of the fashion departments! Let Crazy Dress up Divas have the admiration and appreciation they deserve as the world would be very boring without them. The boundaries need to be crossed to remind us than we can always develop artistically and that we have the power of creativity. And please if you are going to cuss a girl's outfit, have a better reason to cover up your jealousy, Abbey looked hot!
